Living Lightly
Community Activist
Michael Hale discusses the concept and sustainability of eco-villages, emphasizing living lightly on the land and reducing ecological footprints. Michael recounts his journey from environmental work in the 70s to co-founding an eco-village in the late 90s. He finds hope in collaborative local and bioregional efforts addressing climate change, advocating for collective action.
The Global Ecovillage Network outlines four dimensions of sustainability: social, ecological, cultural, and economic.
Ecovillages minimize their ecological footprint using sustainable practices like organic farming, permaculture, and water replenishment.
Sustainability should be the goal of a community, not growth. Why do societies feel the need to infinitely grow in a world with finite resources?
